1960 Montgomery Ward Spring/Summer Catalog

The fashions in the 1960 posts recently were taken from this catalog

It’s hard to tell from the picture above, but it’s quite large. My scanner is a standard size, so I was unable to fit a whole page on. Using a camera to get clear images isn’t easy, either because there are all kinds of issues with light and glare, flatness, etc.

What I’m trying to say is, that I apologize for the poor quality of some of the pictures and hope that you’ve enjoyed them anyway.

Do you have any images from the old Sears or Montgomery Ward catalogs from the 60’s that show that – at that time – you could actually purchase live pedigree puppies from at least one or both of those catalogs? I swear – I remember it – cause I remember begging my mom for a collie or a podle or whatever was popular at that time. Please help! Thank you!

    • I have several Sears and MW catalogs from the 60s and will look through them for you to see if I can find what you’re looking for. I don’t remember seeing any animals for sale, but I’ll check and let you know.

      Thanks for visiting my blog!

I also remember you could purchase live pedigree puppies, horses and other live stock. As a child those catalogs were my dream books. I dreamed of a toy poodle and an Arabian horse and was fortunate enough to have had both throughout the years.

    • Kathy—-In my catalog collection, I have a Montgomery Ward Christmas 1970 catalog with a puppy on the cover—-the caption reads “Christmas
Americana—-A LIVE PUPPY IS…….. Inside they had five pedigree
puppies including miniature poodles—-this what you’re thinking of?

Hi, Tom. Yes, that was what I was looking for………. As a little girl in the 60’s, we would get the Christmas catalog and there were always a couple of pages that had various breeds of purebred puppies for sale. No one believes me!!! HA HA!!!!

  2. I was always so happy when a new catalog arrived in the mailbox. So exciting to see the new styles and cute clothes.

    Thanks for visiting!

  3. Hi, did you know that girl is Lynda Day George? I’m working with her on her Hollywood memoir and she began as a model for Eileen Ford. She was just 16 here! During one of these MW shoots, she met her actor husband, Christopher George. So, if you see a Bride & Groom set that’s probably going to include them both in it.

    • I know who Lynda Day George is, but I didn’t know this was her photograph. Thanks! She was really lovely. When I think of Christopher George, I remember a publicity photo of him wearing an Australian style hat in the WWII television series he was in, Rat Patrol.

Thank you for the reply and for posting the cover! A friend of mine restored it so all the blemishes and cracks are gone. I can send it to you, if you wish. We plan on putting it in her memoir if the publisher will do so in color. We’d also like to credit you in the caption, if you’d like.

If you want the restored version, please contact me at jameszerukjr@gmail.com
